Tuition and Financial Aid
Tuition
GSEFM does not charge tuition for full-time students. A semester registration fee of approximately €390 is paid to Goethe University and covers:
- Unlimited use of public transport in the Rhine-Main region
- Free entry to a list of museums in Frankfurt and Offenbach
Financial Aid
GSEFM offers limited financial aid for incoming Ph.D. students, in the form of stipends or scholarships. To be considered, applicants must check the box “My application is for ‘Ph.D. and MSQ’, and I request to be considered for financial aid” in the application portal. Funding is competitive, and some programs have eligibility restrictions.
Available Programs
For Ph.D. Economics applicants interested in quantitative macroeconomics, model comparison, or monetary economics. Up to three first-year stipends are awarded. Additional teaching or research assistant positions may be offered after qualifying exams. See the IMFS website for details.
Up to three candidates may receive funding for up to six years. Includes a first-year scholarship, employment contract after qualifying exams, access to SAFE research infrastructure, and additional funding opportunities. Open to Ph.D. Finance applicants and Economics applicants focusing on financial economics. Preference is given to female applicants with equal qualifications.
For first-year Ph.D. Finance applicants. Provides training in financial economics, econometrics, and mathematical methods, with opportunities for research assistant positions after qualifying exams.
Some stipends may require additional documents or interviews, and the admissions committee will guide nominated applicants through the selection process. To maximize funding opportunities, applicants are strongly encouraged to submit applications by January 31 or March 31.
Other Funding Opportunities
A monthly stipend of ~€300 for MSQ students, awarded competitively across Goethe University.
Students may apply to programs from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes, Stiftung Geld und Währung, political foundations, and other public scholarship programs. Personalized support is available through the Student Services Office.
Note: In Germany, it is generally not possible to receive more than one publicly funded scholarship simultaneously.
